For women, by women, in support of women! On this 10 Days Women in Malawi, travel Malawi with a group of like-minded ladies with your own professional female guide, raised in Malawi. This adventure takes you across Southern Malawi, experiencing mountains, wildlife, culture, history, forests and of course, Lake Malawi. From quaint eco-lodges nestled amongst trees, to our own island castaway and camping under the stars in Liwonde National Park.

Day 1: Welcome to Blantyre

Arrive in Blantyre today where you will be met by your Nextgens Safaris qualified female guide. Here we will gather at Leslie Lodge to relax and do a full tour briefing over dinner. Meet the other participants of the tour and if there’s time, head into Blantyre to pick up any snacks or last-minute supplies for the journey! Night at Leslie Lodge including dinner, bed and breakfast.

Day 2: Blantyre to Zomba

After breakfast, we’ll make our way through the bustling streets of Blantyre and up to the quiet historic town of Zomba, en-route we’ll stop at the communications museum and other historical sights in the town before heading to one of the local restaurants for lunch. We’ll head up the mountain and check-in to KuChawe inn to overnight on dinner, bed and breakfast. An afternoon walk along one of the mountain streams and dam offers superb views of the plains below, flowers, trees and birds.

Day 3: Zomba to Liwonde National Park

Head back down the mountain with some interesting stops en route to Liwonde Park. Its a game drive through the park to Mvuu Camp, where we set up camp on the banks of the Shire River. 3mX3m dome tents are furnished with camp beds, matrasses, sleeping bags and a small camp pillow. Your guide will treat you to and show you a variety of culinary camp foods. Overnight Camping with all meals and equipment supplied.

Day 4: Exploring Liwonde National Park

Wake up early for tea, coffee and a light breakfast before we head out for a game drive with your guide. We’ll pop the roof on the vehicle and explore the National Park, stopping for tea and coffee in the middle of the drive and returning for brunch. Relax in the heat of the day and after high tea we’ll head out with Mvuu Camp for a boat safari along the Shire River, enjoying a sundowner on the boat. We will return to our campsite in the evening and enjoy dinner under the stars.

Day 5: Exploring Liwonde National Park

Another day in this Malawi paradise on the banks of the Shire River. Today we’ll head out for a light game walk with an Mvuu Camp scout, retuning to our camp for lunch and a relax. Then this afternoon we’ll head out for another game drive in our vehicle, enjoying sundowners before returning to the camp for dinner.

Day 6: Liwonde National Park to Lake Malawi

Morning game activity then dismantle the camp and depart to Cape Maclear. Picnic lunch en route and arrival at the boat launching point is in time for the transfer to the beautiful Mumbo Island. For the adventurous, its possible to Kayak to the island which takes about 2 /3 hours [9km]. Night at Mumbo Island with all meals provided.

Day 7: Island Paradise

A full day on the island to unwind and relax, there are kayaks and snorkelling gear available and massage treatments can be arranged from the mainland. Mumbo has beautiful areas to snorkel and kayak around as well as walking trails, excellent birding and is a true feel of a “castaway” experience. Night at Mumbo including all meals.

Day 8: Lake Malawi to Miombo Forest

Head back to the mainland on the scheduled morning boat transfer, then continue to Dedza, stopping in the pottery workshop for a visit and to sample the delicious cheesecake! From there its another 2 hrs to Dzalanyama Forest Lodge. Night in our little forest lodge with all meals provided.

Day 9:Exploring the Forest

Here you’ll have a choice of activities – Walking and hiking into the forest on well signposted trails, bikes are available so you can cycle along clearly marked cycle trails, an authentic, un-staged village visit is available so you can fully experience village life or for the interested, an optional extra, horse-riding through the forest is offered Overnight Forest Lodge inclusive all meals.

Day 10: End of Tour

Todays departure is coordinated with afternoon flight times, we’ll have breakfast and continue out of the forest – It’s a 2.5 hr transfer time from Dzalanyama to the airport and your return flight / onward journey. We say our goodbyes and end off tour!

GENERAL INFORMATION ON A MALAWI  SAFARI
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: All visitors to Malawi must have a valid passport with at least 4 consecutive blanks pages.  Any applicable visa and/or relevant documentation are the responsibility of the traveller.  For further information on Visa requirements visitors are advised to contact their nearest Malawi Embassy or Consulate.
LANGUAGE:English
TIME: GMT +3
VOLTAGE: 220 Volts/AC50Hz. Sockets are UK style, 3 pin square plugs. Power is from the government in the city/major towns and generator with inverter back up in the Safari Lodges and Camps.
CURRENCY: Foreign currency must be changed at the Bank, Bureau de Change, and Hotel/Safari lodge/Camp/Resort.   Major Credit Cards, Master card, Visa, American Express, are usually accepted throughout the country.  Where credit cards are accepted, the payment will normally be recorded in US$ regardless of the card’s default currency.
CLOTHING: Dress is mainly informal and should be comfortable as well as practical. Something warm should be brought along for early morning and evenings. Safari clothes are available from hotels/lodges/camps.
BAGGAGE: Where possible, travel light. Baggage space on safari is limited to medium suitcase or soft bag per person plus reasonable amount of hand luggage. There is 15 Kilogram per person limit on all flights to the wildlife sanctuaries. Excess luggage must be stored in your arrival hotel.
WATER: You will find many different of opinion of what is safe and what is not. We recommend for peace of mind, to drink local Bottled Mineral water. It is important to drink plenty of water especially during the hotter months. We would recommend that guests drink at least 2 to 3 liters of water per day to limit the effects of dehydration.
HEALTH; East Africa is a safe and secure destination; however, it is a good idea to take a few precautions.  Kindly consult your GP or local doctor at least 6 weeks before you travel, with regards: Malaria prophylactics. East Africa is a known malaria area and preventive measures are essential. You are advised to take one of the recommended anti-malarial drugs.  Be sure to wear long sleeved shorts and trousers after sunset and spray the exposed parts of your body with a mosquito repellent spray Remember to protect yourself from direct sun rays with sunscreen cream or safari hat.
DIETARY REQUIREMENTS: For those guests with specific dietary requirement, please ensure we are notified prior to travel
GRATUITIES: As a guideline and dependent on how happy you are, we would suggest the following: The General Hotel/Lodge/Camp Staff – Approximately U$ 10.00 per person per day Driver Guides – Approximately US$ 15.00 to US$ 20.00 per person per day.
PHOTOGRAPHY: Please be careful when photographing public buildings, airports, bridges, the national flag and people in uniform.  Ensure that you have sought permission before photographing local people and their villages.  If in doubt, please check with your guide.
