This 10 Days Zimbabwe Safari itinerary is a great introductory trip to Zimbabwe, encompassing some of the best-known safari and wilderness locations. Your journey starts at the mighty Victoria Falls, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Your 10 Days Zimbabwe Safari will then take you to Hwange National Park, the best-known wildlife park in Zimbabwe, for a classic land safari experience. You will then travel to Lake Kariba to enjoy a mixed camp that offers both water and land safari experiences.

Day 1: Arrive at Victoria Falls and Transfer to Batonka

Once you have landed in Victoria Falls from your international flight, your guide will meet you and take you by road transfer to Batonka Guest Lodge. This lovely, intimate boutique lodge is in a quiet suburb just 5km (3mi) from the mighty Victoria Falls. Batonka Guest Lodge is the perfect base to explore the area and all the wonderful activities and experiences Victoria Falls town offers.

Day 2-3: Exploring Victoria Falls

Victoria Falls town and its surrounding areas offer a wide variety of unforgettable experiences catering to all tastes. Whether you want to enjoy a relaxed and slow-paced visit with boat cruises on the river and historical and cultural tours or adrenalin-filled adventures such as helicopter rides, white water rafting, and canoeing, Victoria Falls offers it all. Third-party companies run activities and can be booked with Batonka’s concierge desk or directly with suppliers you will meet at local booking offices. These two full days are at your leisure and completely tailored by you as you see fit.

Day 4: Drive to Hwange National Park

Today, you will have your final breakfast at Batonka and be collected by your driver, who will take you by road into Hwange National Park and on to The Hide Safari Camp. Hwange National Park is Zimbabwe’s most famous wildlife and safari area, home to the Big Five, many other African species, and numerous bird species.

The Hide Safari Camp is one of the park’s most famous properties and perfectly balances luxury and a traditional safari camp atmosphere. The property is in its own private concession, which enables you to enjoy day and night safari activities. Their world-class underground hide overlooks a local waterhole where predators and prey alike venture throughout the day and night, and it is an experience like no other!

Day 5-6: Explore Hwange National Park

Two full days of exploring this iconic safari destination will have you experience the very best that a safari has to offer. A mix of nature walks, day and night drives, hide visits, and armchair safari viewing back at camp will give you the very best chance of seeing a variety of expected and elusive creatures such as lions, leopards, elephants, giraffes, wild dogs, buffalos, aardvarks, porcupines and more. The guides at The Hide Safari Camp are experts in tracking large and smaller animals to cater to every visitor’s needs. Although sightings of specific animals cannot be guaranteed, your chances are exceptionally better here in the private concession, where animals are not disturbed by other vehicles.

Day 7: Fly to Matusadona National Park and Lake Kariba

Today you will have your final breakfast and morning activity in Hwange before boarding a light aircraft that will take you to Lake Kariba and the Matusadona National Park. You will be staying for three nights at the beautiful Changa Safari Camp, a tented and exposed timber safari camp built on the sandy banks of Lake Kariba. This camp offers a touch of elegance and comfort with amazing views over the lake and quick access to wildlife in the Matusadona National Park.

Day 8-9: Explore Matusadona National Park and Lake Kariba

Changa Safari Camp offers a variety of amazing experiences to their guests, which you can select during your stay, and all are included. These include boat safaris, guided nature walks and tracking by foot, fishing for tigerfish, game drives, bird watching by land or water, plus an interesting scenic boat trip to the nearby Sanyati Gorge. The sunsets in Kariba are magical and hard to beat, so you will always find yourself being taken by the guides, either by land or boat, to a perfect sunset viewing spot for sundowner drinks and canapes.

Day 10: Return to Victoria Falls and Departure

Sadly, today, you say goodbye to Changa Safari Camp and Zimbabwe. After breakfast and a morning activity, you will then fly by light aircraft to Victoria Falls. Once landing at Victoria Falls Airport, you will connect with your international flight out of Zimbabwe, beginning your journey home. Zimbabwe is one of those destinations that will always hold a place in your heart and may see you return one day.

GENERAL INFORMATION ON A ZIMBABWE SAFARI
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: All visitors to Zimbabwe must have a valid passport with at least 4 consecutive blanks pages.  Any applicable visa and/or relevant documentation are the responsibility of the traveller.  For further information on Visa requirements visitors are advised to contact their nearest Zimbabwe Embassy or Consulate.

TIME: GMT +3
VOLTAGE: 220 Volts/AC50Hz. Sockets are UK style, 3 pin square plugs. Power is from the government in the city/major towns and generator with inverter back up in the Safari Lodges and Camps.
CURRENCY: Foreign currency must be changed at the Bank, Bureau de Change, and Hotel/Safari lodge/Camp/Resort.   Major Credit Cards, Master card, Visa, American Express, are usually accepted throughout the country.  Where credit cards are accepted, the payment will normally be recorded in US$ regardless of the card’s default currency.
CLOTHING: Dress is mainly informal and should be comfortable as well as practical. Something warm should be brought along for early morning and evenings. Safari clothes are available from hotels/lodges/camps.
BAGGAGE: Where possible, travel light. Baggage space on safari is limited to medium suitcase or soft bag per person plus reasonable amount of hand luggage. There is 15 Kilogram per person limit on all flights to the wildlife sanctuaries. Excess luggage must be stored in your arrival hotel.
WATER: You will find many different of opinion of what is safe and what is not. We recommend for peace of mind, to drink local Bottled Mineral water. It is important to drink plenty of water especially during the hotter months. We would recommend that guests drink at least 2 to 3 liters of water per day to limit the effects of dehydration.
HEALTH; East Africa is a safe and secure destination; however, it is a good idea to take a few precautions.  Kindly consult your GP or local doctor at least 6 weeks before you travel, with regards: Malaria prophylactics. East Africa is a known malaria area and preventive measures are essential. You are advised to take one of the recommended anti-malarial drugs.  Be sure to wear long sleeved shorts and trousers after sunset and spray the exposed parts of your body with a mosquito repellent spray Remember to protect yourself from direct sun rays with sunscreen cream or safari hat.
DIETARY REQUIREMENTS: For those guests with specific dietary requirement, please ensure we are notified prior to travel
GRATUITIES: As a guideline and dependent on how happy you are, we would suggest the following: The General Hotel/Lodge/Camp Staff – Approximately U$ 10.00 per person per day Driver Guides – Approximately US$ 15.00 to US$ 20.00 per person per day.
PHOTOGRAPHY: Please be careful when photographing public buildings, airports, bridges, the national flag and people in uniform.  Ensure that you have sought permission before photographing local people and their villages.  If in doubt, please check with your guide.
