Day 1: Arrival at Kigali International Airport – Kigali City Tour and Cultural Experience

Your 7 Days Luxury Rwanda Gorilla and Wildlife Safari begins upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, where your professional English-speaking driver-guide will warmly welcome you and assist with your luggage. After completing the airport formalities, you will begin a guided introduction to Rwanda’s beautiful capital. Depending on your arrival time, your Kigali city experience will include a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, where you will learn about Rwanda’s history, the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and the country’s journey towards reconciliation and rebuilding.

You may also explore selected cultural attractions, local craft markets and art galleries that showcase Rwanda’s rich traditions and contemporary creativity. Afterwards, you will transfer to Kigali Serena Hotel, where you will check in and enjoy the hotel’s elegant surroundings and hospitality. Spend the remainder of the day relaxing after your international journey before enjoying dinner and preparing for your upcoming adventure.

Day 2: Scenic Transfer from Kigali to Volcanoes National Park – Afternoon Relaxation

After breakfast at Kigali Serena Hotel, you will begin your scenic journey to Volcanoes National Park, located in northwestern Rwanda. The approximately 2–3-hour drive takes you through beautiful rolling hills, traditional villages, green agricultural landscapes and picturesque countryside. As you approach Musanze and Kinigi, you will enjoy magnificent views of the Virunga Mountains, which provide a spectacular backdrop to Rwanda’s famous mountain gorilla habitat.

Upon arrival, you will check in at Sambora Kinigi Lodge, your selected luxury retreat near Volcanoes National Park. Enjoy lunch and spend the afternoon relaxing in the peaceful surroundings while admiring the beautiful volcanic scenery. Depending on your interests, you may enjoy a leisurely walk around the lodge or simply appreciate the refreshing mountain atmosphere. In the evening, enjoy dinner and prepare for the following morning’s mountain gorilla trekking adventure.

Day 3: Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park – Afternoon at Leisure

Today is one of the most extraordinary highlights of your 7 Days Luxury Rwanda Gorilla and Wildlife Safari. After an early breakfast at Sambora Kinigi Lodge, your driver-guide will transfer you to the park headquarters in Kinigi for registration and the morning gorilla trekking briefing, beginning at approximately 7:00 am. Experienced park rangers will explain the trekking procedures, safety guidelines and conservation regulations before accompanying you into the beautiful bamboo forests and volcanic slopes in search of a habituated mountain gorilla family.

Your mountain gorilla trekking experience offers an unforgettable opportunity to spend up to one hour observing these magnificent primates in their natural habitat. You may witness powerful silverbacks, playful youngsters and mothers caring for their infants while learning about their fascinating behaviour and social relationships. The trekking duration varies depending on the gorillas’ location and forest conditions, making every encounter unique.

After completing your trek, return to Sambora Kinigi Lodge for lunch and relaxation, depending on your finishing time. Spend the afternoon enjoying the peaceful surroundings, beautiful mountain views and personalised hospitality. In the evening, enjoy dinner and another comfortable overnight stay near Volcanoes National Park.

Day 4: Golden Monkey Trekking in Volcanoes National Park – Scenic Transfer to Kigali

After breakfast, return to Volcanoes National Park for an exciting golden monkey trekking experience. Following a morning briefing at the park headquarters, you will enter the beautiful bamboo forests with experienced ranger guides in search of these colourful and energetic primates. Golden monkeys are known for their distinctive golden-orange fur, playful movements and fascinating social behaviour, making them wonderful subjects for wildlife observation and photography.

Once the monkeys are located, you will have up to one hour observing them as they feed, interact and move through the bamboo vegetation. This remarkable experience provides another opportunity to appreciate the biodiversity of Volcanoes National Park while enjoying the beautiful scenery of the Virunga Mountains. After your trek, return to your lodge for lunch and an opportunity to freshen up before beginning your journey back to Kigali.

The return drive takes approximately 2–3 hours through Rwanda’s picturesque countryside. Upon arrival, you will check in at Kigali Serena Hotel and spend the evening relaxing after your memorable primate encounters. Enjoy dinner and prepare for the next stage of your safari in Akagera National Park.

Day 5: Kigali – Transfer to Akagera National Park – Afternoon Wildlife Game Drive

After breakfast at Kigali Serena Hotel, your 7 Days Luxury Rwanda Gorilla and Wildlife Safari continues towards Akagera National Park, Rwanda’s spectacular savannah wildlife destination and home to Africa’s celebrated Big Five. The scenic journey takes approximately 3–3½ hours to the southern park area, passing through beautiful rolling hills, traditional villages and eastern Rwanda’s countryside. As you enter Akagera, the landscape changes to open grasslands, acacia woodlands, wetlands and beautiful freshwater lakes.

Upon arrival, you will continue to Ruzizi Tented Lodge, an intimate upscale eco-lodge overlooking Lake Ihema. After checking in, enjoy lunch and spend some time relaxing in the peaceful lakeside surroundings. Later in the afternoon, embark on your first guided wildlife game drive, exploring the park’s beautiful savannah habitats in search of elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, antelopes and other remarkable animals.

Depending on wildlife movements, you may also encounter lions or other predators as you explore the park with your experienced safari guide. As evening approaches, return to Ruzizi Tented Lodge for dinner and a peaceful overnight stay surrounded by the beautiful African wilderness.

Day 6: Big Five Wildlife Game Drive – Afternoon Boat Safari on Lake Ihema

Today is dedicated to exploring the remarkable wildlife and natural beauty of Akagera National Park. After an early breakfast at Ruzizi Tented Lodge, you will depart for a guided morning game drive through the park’s diverse savannah ecosystems. Accompanied by your experienced safari guide, you will explore open grasslands, woodlands and scenic valleys in search of lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes and rhinoceroses. Although sightings of all five members of the Big Five cannot be guaranteed, Akagera offers exciting opportunities to encounter these animals alongside giraffes, zebras, impalas, waterbucks and numerous bird species.

Your guide will help you identify different wildlife species while explaining their behaviour and the conservation efforts that have helped restore Akagera’s wildlife populations. The beautiful combination of savannah plains, rolling hills and freshwater lakes creates wonderful opportunities for photography and nature appreciation.

After your morning wildlife experience, return to Ruzizi Tented Lodge for lunch and relaxation. In the afternoon, enjoy a guided boat safari on Lake Ihema, where you may observe hippos, Nile crocodiles, elephants along the shoreline and an impressive variety of waterbirds. The boat excursion provides a beautiful perspective of the park’s wetlands and surrounding landscapes. Later, return to your lodge for dinner and your final overnight stay in Akagera National Park.

Day 7: Morning Wildlife Experience – Transfer to Kigali International Airport for Departure

Depending on your international flight schedule, you may have an opportunity to enjoy a short morning game drive through the surrounding savannah. The early hours offer rewarding wildlife viewing opportunities as animals become active in the cooler temperatures and birds gather around the park’s wetlands.

Following your morning experience, return to the lodge to collect your luggage and prepare for departure. Your private driver-guide will then transfer you through Akagera National Park towards the southern entrance before continuing west to Kigali. The journey takes approximately 3–3½ hours, depending on road conditions and traffic, passing through beautiful countryside and traditional communities.

Upon arrival in Kigali, you will be transferred to Kigali International Airport in time for your scheduled departure flight. This marks the end of your unforgettable seven-day safari, leaving you with lasting memories of mountain gorilla trekking, golden monkey encounters, thrilling Big Five wildlife experiences and the beautiful landscapes of Rwanda.
