7 Days Namibia Safari

Day 1: Windhoek

You are collected from the airport (must arrive prior to 12:00 pm), or bus terminal on arrival and transferred to the centrally located Chameleon Guesthouse. This afternoon, you will join the afternoon feeding tour at N/a’ankuse Lodge, where you have wonderful photographic opportunities of the large predators such as lion, leopard and wild dogs to name a few, that are unable to be re-located back into the wild and learn more about these fascinating animals. Returning to Chameleon Guesthouse early evening, dinner tonight is at your own expense either at Chameleon, or one of the many restaurants.

Your overnight stay will be in twin share room with en-suite facilities. NOTE: No single supplement will be charged if you are willing to share a tent with another single traveller of the same sex.

7 Days Namibia Safari

Day 2: Windhoek to Etosha National Park

Be ready at 7:30 am as the group meets for a pre-departure talks before we depart. You stop briefly at Otjiwarongo to gather some last-minute supplies before continuing on to Etosha with a light lunch pack whilst “on the move”. You enjoy an afternoon game drive through the park visiting waterholes looking for predators as well as zebra, giraffe, elephant, rhino and many different species of antelope. You’ll arrive at your lodge just before sunset and settle into your rooms, with en-suite bathroom and tea/coffee facilities. A visit to the flood lit waterhole is highly recommend while dinner is prepared by your guide over an open fire.

NOTE: No single supplement will be charged if you are willing to share a tent with another single traveller of the same sex. Driving time: ~5 1/2 hours.

Day 3: Etosha National Park

You’ll start your first game drive at sunrise to catch the predators while they are still active, visiting many waterholes. Your second game drive mid morning takes you to the impressive Etosha Pan “great white place” where you can get out of the vehicle and experience this 4500sq km “saline desert” before continuing your game drive to look for the Big Four. You’ll arrive back at Halali where your guide will prepare a delicious lunch whilst we have a dip in the pool or relax by the camp waterhole.

After lunch, you begin your final game drive across the park towards Okaukuejo calling into some well-known waterholes and leave the park prior to sunset. Your accommodation tonight is just outside the park in a comfortable spacious twin share room with a modern en-suite bathroom facilities, creating an ideal space to sit back, relax and enjoy the beauty that surrounds you. Fantastic dinner is prepared by your guide and another early night is recommended.

Day 4: Etosha National Park to Swakopmund

Enjoy an early morning breakfast and depart from the lodge is at 7:30 am. The route today takes you into the dramatic and beautiful scenery of Damaraland. You have the chance to meet the wonderful Herero ladies who sell their handmade arts and crafts to support their rural families. A light roadside lunch is served en-route in the shadow of Namibia’s tallest mountain, the Brandberg, and you can interact with some of the colorful local characters who live in this harsh environment.

On the drive down the Skeleton Coast, we explore the remains of a small shipwreck. Arrive in Swakopmund late in the afternoon where depending on the season, you will have the chance to explore this quaint seaside town on foot and enjoy a coffee and cake in one of the many cafes. Your overnight accommodation will be at Hotel A La Mer (or similar) in en-suite rooms on a twin share basis. Sample one of the many great restaurants for your evening meal (at your own expense). Driving time: ~7 hours.

Day 5: Swakopmund to Sesriem

A free morning to explore the town centre of Swakopmund or for the adrenalin junkies, join the 2 hour sand boarding trip into the sand dunes. You will be picked up from your guesthouse/hotel in Swakopmund at 11:15 am, (wintertime 10:15 am) for a brief pre-departure talk. Driving via the Kuiseb Canyon and Solitaire, you’ll arrive at your camp late in the afternoon and have a chance to relax and enjoy the views before taking a short walk for sunset overlooking the Naukluft Mountain range. Your overnight stay will be in twin rooms with en-suite bathroom facilities. Pool and bar are available. Dinner is prepared by your guide over an open fire. Driving time: ~5-6 hours.

Day 6: Sossusvlei

Dawn departure from your lodge to arrive at the park gate for sunrise. You drive down an ancient river bed surrounded by towering dunes to the 2×4 parking (around 55km) and take a 4×4 shuttle into the Sossusvlei area to appreciate the beauty of this place in early morning light and enjoy the peace and tranquility of the region. You explore this unique area on foot before heading into Dead Vlei with its large expanse of bleached cracked clay and skeletal camel thorn trees, contrasting with a backdrop of huge dunes with their ever-changing colours. You then take the 4×4 shuttle back to your vehicle.

As you drive back to your accommodation, you will stop at the famous Dune 45 and climb this dune if you wish or just wander around the base. You return to Sesriem and visit the nearby Sesriem Canyon, one of the few permanent water sources before arriving back at your lodge late afternoon to watch the sunset. Overnight in twin share rooms with en-suite bathrooms. Dinner prepared by your guide.

Day 7: Sesriem to Windhoek

Have an early morning breakfast before heading to Solitaire Guest Farm where you join a biologist to track wild cheetahs at the Namib Conservation Centre. You’ll return to Windhoek via the Naukluft Mountains and Rehoboth. On arrival in Windhoek, mid-afternoon, you will be dropped at your accommodation of choice or transferred directly to the international airport for your onward flight or to the bus terminal for your overnight bus. For those that choose to fly today, no flights departing prior to 5:00 pm in case there are unexpected delays returning from safari. Outbound airport transfer is included, should it be for today or a later date. Driving time: ~5 hours.

GENERAL INFORMATION ON A NAMIBIA SAFARI
 
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: All visitors to Namibia must have a valid passport with at least 4 consecutive blanks pages.  Any applicable visa and/or relevant documentation are the responsibility of the traveller.  For further information on Visa requirements visitors are advised to contact their nearest Namibian African Embassy or Consulate.

TIME: GMT +3
 
VOLTAGE: 220 Volts/AC50Hz. Sockets are UK style, 3 pin square plugs. Power is from the government in the city/major towns and generator with inverter back up in the Safari Lodges and Camps.
 
CURRENCY: Foreign currency must be changed at the Bank, Bureau de Change, and Hotel/Safari lodge/Camp/Resort.   Major Credit Cards, Master card, Visa, American Express, are usually accepted throughout the country.  Where credit cards are accepted, the payment will normally be recorded in US$ regardless of the card’s default currency.
 
CLOTHING: Dress is mainly informal and should be comfortable as well as practical. Something warm should be brought along for early morning and evenings. Safari clothes are available from hotels/lodges/camps.
 
BAGGAGE: Where possible, travel light. Baggage space on safari is limited to medium suitcase or soft bag per person plus reasonable amount of hand luggage. There is 15 Kilogram per person limit on all flights to the wildlife sanctuaries. Excess luggage must be stored in your arrival hotel.
 
WATER: You will find many different of opinion of what is safe and what is not. We recommend for peace of mind, to drink local Bottled Mineral water. It is important to drink plenty of water especially during the hotter months. We would recommend that guests drink at least 2 to 3 liters of water per day to limit the effects of dehydration.
 
HEALTH; East Africa is a safe and secure destination; however, it is a good idea to take a few precautions.  Kindly consult your GP or local doctor at least 6 weeks before you travel, with regards: Malaria prophylactics. East Africa is a known malaria area and preventive measures are essential. You are advised to take one of the recommended anti-malarial drugs.  Be sure to wear long sleeved shorts and trousers after sunset and spray the exposed parts of your body with a mosquito repellent spray Remember to protect yourself from direct sun rays with sunscreen cream or safari hat.
 
DIETARY REQUIREMENTS: For those guests with specific dietary requirement, please ensure we are notified prior to travel
 
GRATUITIES: As a guideline and dependent on how happy you are, we would suggest the following: The General Hotel/Lodge/Camp Staff – Approximately U$ 10.00 per person per day Driver Guides – Approximately US$ 15.00 to US$ 20.00 per person per day.
 
PHOTOGRAPHY: Please be careful when photographing public buildings, airports, bridges, the national flag and people in uniform.  Ensure that you have sought permission before photographing local people and their villages.  If in doubt, please check with your guide.
