9 Days Zimbabwe Safari Overview

The dramatic landscapes, inspiring wilderness, captivating people, intriguing cultures, food, and vibrant music provide the perfect setting for an unforgettable celebration of a Zimbabwean tour. This 9 Days Zimbabwe Safari includes Victoria Falls (one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World), Hwange National Park, Matopos Hills (where Cecil John Rhodes’ grave is), and the extensive stone ruins of Great Zimbabwe. Finally, a road transfer takes you to Harare International Airport where the safari ends.
9 Days Zimbabwe Safari

Day 1-2: The Mighty Victoria Falls

Your driver will wait for you at the airport, located 21 km southeast of Victoria Falls town. You will be transferred to Dzimbahwe Guest Lodge, a comfortable lodge located in the peaceful area of Victoria Falls, close to the game corridor. It is approximately 3km from the main falls where you will sleep for 2 nights. On the same day, you will be picked up for the sunset dinner cruise offering splendid scenery with exotic birdlife and many hippos, crocodiles, and elephants that cross the river to feed on the island. As the magical sunset charm settles over the river, lanterns are lit and a wonderful 3-course dinner is served.

The following day, you will be picked up from your lodge to enjoy a guided tour of Victoria Falls. Later in the day, you will go on a village tour. As the evening approaches, you will go for an unforgettable African experience infused with Zimbabwean cuisine — the buffet boma dinner. Tomorrow, you will have an early transfer to Hwange National Park.

Day 3-4: Hwange National Park

After breakfast you will be picked up for a drive approximately 2 hours long, passing through Hwange town dotted with villages within rural Africa to Ganda Lodge which overlooks the Ganda pan, a natural waterhole, which attracts a variety of bird and animal species including elephant, buffalo, lion and a variety of waterfowl. After lunch you will take a rest as you await to be picked by an experienced and informative guide for a night game drive through an estate harbouring nocturnals as hyenas, genets, civets, etc. Second dayyou’ll enjoy the Hwange National Park day trip into Zimbabwe’s premier wildlife area on safari game drives through different routes.

Later, you’ll enjoy a picnic lunch and ride back into these rolling plains and see the last great free-ranging elephant population with nearly all major species and accompanying predators such as zebras, lions, impalas, hyenas, roan, sable, and kudu. You’ll have the sundowner in nature and finish the day with dinner at the lodge.

Day 5: Matobo National Park

After the eventful experience of an African safari in Hwange National Park and a quiet, bushy sleep at Ganda Lodge, you’ll depart with your driver after breakfast to Matobo Hills Lodge. Before you reach the lodge, you will pass through Bulawayo, a gateway to Matobo National Park. It is the second-largest city in Zimbabwe and the largest city in the country’s Matabeleland. The city has parks and charming colonial architecture.

After a 52-km drive from Bulawayo, you will arrive at Matobo Hills Lodge for a check-in at the amazing lodge. The large sunlit windows offer you breathtaking views of Matobo Hills and the secluded bush surroundings. Expect to take away new insights, an appreciation for Africa and her people, and an unforgettable experience.

Day 6: Matobo National Park Trip

Today after breakfast, expect to take away new insights for an appreciation of Africa and her people, and an unforgettable experience of the Matobo Day Trip by visiting one of Africa’s hidden gems for its impressive scenery, huge granite boulders (balanced precariously on one another) and a variety of animal species. On this day trip to Matobo National Park, you will track rhinos on foot and take you to ancient bushmen paintings. In the afternoon, you will be treated to a three-course meal lunch by your guide before you’ll head for the Rhodes Grave known as the world’s view site accompanied by a beautiful scenery of the sunset along the way.

Day 7: Great Zimbabwe

After an amazing experience at Matobo Hills Lodge, you’ll grab your breakfast, check out of the hotel, and head to Great Zimbabwe with your driver. It is a drive of 3 hours or so, passing through Masvingo which is a small town with palm-lined, wide streets lined with rather shabby buildings. It is 27km away from the Great Zimbabwe Ruins. You’ll check in at the lodge at the Ancient City which is a unique hotel built around a granite outcrop in the same style as Great Zimbabwe. It provides stunning views across the valley of Msasa towards the ancient city of Great Zimbabwe. Here, you will stay for 1 night.

Day 8: Great Zimbabwe Ruins Tour

This morning after breakfast you will check out from the lodge and your driver will take you to your guide who will walk with you on the tour of the ruins of this ancient place for almost 3 hours, giving you an insight into these old, grandeur ruins of Great Zimbabwe. The ruins are known as the greatest medieval city in sub-Saharan Africa. It is the World Heritage–listed Great Zimbabwe which is one of the nation’s most treasured sights, so much so that the country was named after it. After the tour, you’ll head to Harare, the capital.

You will stay overnight at Cresta Lodge Harare. Before you reach your lodge, you will drive through Harare town which is the most populous city in Zimbabwe. It is laid-back with wide avenues, lined with dusty red earth, indigenous plants, and blooming jacarandas, giving it a lovely African summertime feel.

Day 9: Harare International Airport

Finally, after an interesting trip, you’ll drive through some of Zimbabwe’s most popular sites. You will check out from Cresta Lodge after breakfast. You will then be transferred by your driver to Harare International Airport to catch your flight.

GENERAL INFORMATION ON A ZIMBABWE SAFARI
 
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: All visitors to Zimbabwe must have a valid passport with at least 4 consecutive blanks pages.  Any applicable visa and/or relevant documentation are the responsibility of the traveller.  For further information on Visa requirements visitors are advised to contact their nearest Zimbabwe Embassy or Consulate.

VOLTAGE: 220 Volts/AC50Hz. Sockets are UK style, 3 pin square plugs. Power is from the government in the city/major towns and generator with inverter back up in the Safari Lodges and Camps.
 
CURRENCY: Foreign currency must be changed at the Bank, Bureau de Change, and Hotel/Safari lodge/Camp/Resort.   Major Credit Cards, Master card, Visa, American Express, are usually accepted throughout the country.  Where credit cards are accepted, the payment will normally be recorded in US$ regardless of the card’s default currency.
 
CLOTHING: Dress is mainly informal and should be comfortable as well as practical. Something warm should be brought along for early morning and evenings. Safari clothes are available from hotels/lodges/camps.
 
BAGGAGE: Where possible, travel light. Baggage space on safari is limited to medium suitcase or soft bag per person plus reasonable amount of hand luggage. There is 15 Kilogram per person limit on all flights to the wildlife sanctuaries. Excess luggage must be stored in your arrival hotel.
 
WATER: You will find many different of opinion of what is safe and what is not. We recommend for peace of mind, to drink local Bottled Mineral water. It is important to drink plenty of water especially during the hotter months. We would recommend that guests drink at least 2 to 3 liters of water per day to limit the effects of dehydration.
 
HEALTH; East Africa is a safe and secure destination; however, it is a good idea to take a few precautions.  Kindly consult your GP or local doctor at least 6 weeks before you travel, with regards: Malaria prophylactics. East Africa is a known malaria area and preventive measures are essential. You are advised to take one of the recommended anti-malarial drugs.  Be sure to wear long sleeved shorts and trousers after sunset and spray the exposed parts of your body with a mosquito repellent spray Remember to protect yourself from direct sun rays with sunscreen cream or safari hat.
 
DIETARY REQUIREMENTS: For those guests with specific dietary requirement, please ensure we are notified prior to travel
 
GRATUITIES: As a guideline and dependent on how happy you are, we would suggest the following: The General Hotel/Lodge/Camp Staff – Approximately U$ 10.00 per person per day Driver Guides – Approximately US$ 15.00 to US$ 20.00 per person per day.
 
PHOTOGRAPHY: Please be careful when photographing public buildings, airports, bridges, the national flag and people in uniform.  Ensure that you have sought permission before photographing local people and their villages.  If in doubt, please check with your guide.
