6-Day Rwanda Chimpanzee Trekking and Wildlife Safari

This trip takes you to experience authentic, beautiful Rwanda. Enjoy the wildlife safaris in Akagera National Park as well as a boat cruise. On the city tour in Kigali, you’ll visit the Genocide Memorial Center and the local markets. There will be chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk adventures in Nyungwe Forest National Park.

Day 1: Arrival at the Kigali International Airport

On arrival at Kigali International Airport, our dedicated team of Hermosa Life Tours and Travel will meet and greet you and assist with customs. We will then transfer you to your hotel in Kigali. Enjoy the hotel amenities and have dinner and overnight at Hotel 2000.

Day 2: Transfer to Akagera National Park

After breakfast at the hotel, check out and transfer to Akagera National Park, home of the Big 5. On the way, enjoy the landscapes and the hills of Rwanda. Have an in-route game drive with beautiful views as you drive to the lodge. You can expect to see different animals on this Wildlife Safari such as elephants, giraffes, and lions. On arrival at the lodge, check in, have lunch and relax.

Spend the afternoon at leisure and enjoy the lodge amenities. In the evening, go on a night game drive where you are rewarded with seeing wildlife in their natural habitat. You have the chance to see nocturnal wildlife species that are not easy to see during the daytime. Later, you will return to the lodge.

Day 3: Akagera National Park Experiences

Akagera is also known as one of the most scenic savannahs in East Africa. After breakfast, take your packed lunch box and visit the giraffe area in the south and the lakes road up towards Birengero.

Akagera National Park is home to elephant, lion, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, antelope and many more. Have a stopover at the picnic area for lunch. Proceed on a boat cruise on Lake Ihema where you are rewarded with sights of several hippos and bird species. Continue on the drive back to Kigali and enjoy the sunset and landscapes in the area, perfect for photos. Arrive at the hotel with relaxation, dinner and your overnight stay at Hotel 2000.

Day 4: Kigali City Tour and Transfer to Nyungwe National Park

After breakfast at the hotel, embark on a Kigali city tour. Here, you will go for a visit to the Genocide Memorial Center, the local markets in Kimironko, and see the daily activities of the local Rwandan people with smiles on their faces. Continue with the drive to the south in Nyungwe National Park. En route, visit the King’s Palace at Nyanza and have lunch.

Proceed southwest with the journey which passes through the beautiful terraced hillsides that characterize much of Rwanda’s landscape. On arrival at the hotel, check in and enjoy property amenities. Spend the evening at leisure and relax at the lodge until dinner.

Day 5: Chimpanzee Trekking and Canopy Walk Adventure

On this day, you will enjoy an early breakfast at your lodge before embarking on a thrilling hike in search of chimpanzee communities and other Wildlife Safari. The Rwandan chimpanzee population is thought to consist of approximately 400 to 500 individuals confined to the Nyungwe National Park, including a small community in the Cyamudongo Forest. Prepare to hear these exciting primates before you see them, as their pant-hoots travel through the deep forest.

During your hike, you may also spot migratory birdlife including Ross’s turaco, grey-cheeked hornbill, red-breasted sparrow hawk and regal sunbird. Return to the hotel for lunch. In the afternoon, proceed with the canopy walk adventure for a more thrilling experience. Retire and enjoy the property amenities. Later in the evening, relax at the lodge until dinner.

Day 6: Tea Plantation Experience and Departure

On this day, you will enjoy an early breakfast at your lodge before embarking on the tea plantation experience where you will engage with the local people. After this adventure, proceed to the hotel for check-out and drive back to Kigali. You have time to do quick souvenir shopping before your departure.
