What is cultural tourism?
Cultural tourism involves the movement of people to see the way of other people and the areas visited. Visitors are mainly interested in the architecture of the place, its history (politically, social and economic), they also interested in the food (culinary tourism), rituals and beliefs, traditions and ceremonies (marriage, cultural ceremonies like Imbalu, coronations, coming of age ceremonies and religious ceremonies like martyrs’ day celebrations. Cultural tourism also influences cultural landscape of the destination.

Monuments
A monument is something put in place to commemorate the achievement of something or activity. Uganda has many monuments that give a clear commemoration of given personalities and events as they have happened across generations. Among these are the Independence monument in Kololo, this commemorates the Independence of Uganda as a nation, Kasubi tombs where Buganda Kings are buried, this is one of the few UNESCO heritage sites in Africa alongside the pyramids in Egypt where the Pharaohs were buried, and it has been renovated ever since it was burnt in 2009 and it is expected to be opened up in 2024 by the King of Buganda His majesty Ronald Muwenda Mutebi the second in a mass event that will be witnessed by all protocols of people around the globe.
CHOGM Monument at Uganda parliament, Fort Lugard, Mahatma Gandhi monument at the source of the Nile, this was established in commemoration of the founder father of the modern India. The Ivory Tower at Makerere University and this was the first building at Makerere University widely known as the African Harvard.
Architectural Building styles:
Uganda has a variety of architectural designs elevating the true African societies as they used to be during the pre- colonial era as well as the modern architectural designs . Such are showcased at the Uganda Museum, colonial building styles at old Kampala, Makerere University, the first University in Uganda and in East Africa where famous personalities like Julius Nyerere of Tanzania attained his higher academic grades also has a variety of rare architectural designs like the Ivory tower it’s main building among others Bulange Mengo, the headquarters of Buganda kingdom a famous kingdom within the interlacustrine region a region between the great lakes of East Africa like Victoria the Source of the Nile river, Albert where oil mining is taking place among other, Jinja, Mbale, Fort Portal.
Entertainment
This is experienced during performances in the theatres like Bat valley, LA Bonita, National theatre, Ndere centre , cultural dances and festivals like Imbalu in the Bagisu where male boys are circumcised in a communal event that involves attractive dances and rhymes all over the Eastlands as you experience the scenic view and beauty of Mount Elgon and the Masaba lands in addition to splashes of the famous Sipi falls, Black smith, Nyegenyege , a brand new event in Uganda widely known for sex tourism around Itanda falls an area for critical white water rafters. Coronations of kings like in Buganda, Busoga, Toro and elsewhere there are kingships, Cultural galas among others
Culture of the people.
Being a rich country of ethnicity with over 50 ethnic groups like the Baganda with their hospitality, Batoro, Basoga, the culture of the people of Uganda is showcased in rituals, traditions which relate to how culture dictates the use of the surrounding by the people like the black smith, brewing, marriage, religion and agriculture.
Dark tourism sites
This involves travel to places historically associated with mass tragedy and death and Uganda has many such places . These include Kasubi tombs, Katereke ditch, Namugongo martyrs shrine and mass movement to the Shrine is always done every year on 3rd June in remembrance to these Christian heroes, Karambi royal tombs, Mparo tombs, Semei Kakunguru tombs among others.
Urban tourism activities
This involves moving around an urban space with its inherent attributes like visiting sites, souvenir centres, sports activities like football, basketball, entertainment like Endere centre, visiting museums, as well as the night life of Kampala city
Homestays
This involves Visitors experiencing the daily lives of people mainly in the rural areas in their home settings. In Uganda it is mainly experienced around lake Mburo national park homestays.
Cultural landscapes
These are both natural and man made dependent on the people living in the area and activities they perform on land like the land scapes of Toro around Nyakasura Mabereganyinamwiru in particular a place resembling a female breasts as well as the Kigezi landscape famously known as hiking arenas.
