4 Days Big Five Uganda Safari Itinerary

 Day 1: Arrival at Murchison Falls National Park

Morning: On the first day you will be transferred from the airport or your lodge in Kampala or Entebbe to Murchison Falls National Park on a 5-hour drive and reach the park in time for lunch.
Afternoon: Settle into your accommodation, which could range from luxury lodges to tented camps, each offering a unique experience in the heart of the African wilderness. Enjoy a delicious lunch while taking in the stunning views of the park.

Evening: Embark on a thrilling evening game drive, guided by experienced rangers. Keep your eyes peeled for the iconic Big Five: lions, elephants, buffalo, leopards, and rhinos, as well as other fascinating wildlife such as giraffes, antelopes, and various bird species. As the sun sets, return to your accommodation for a hearty dinner under the starlit African sky.

Day 2: Exploring Murchison Falls National Park

Morning: Rise early for a sunrise game drive, an ideal time to spot predators on the prowl and witness the savannah come to life. Marvel at the diverse landscapes, from vast grasslands to dense woodlands, as you search for elusive wildlife.

Afternoon: Return to your lodge for a leisurely brunch and some relaxation time. In the afternoon, embark on a boat safari along the Nile River to the base of Murchison Falls. Glide past hippos bathing in the water, crocodiles basking on the riverbanks, and an abundance of birdlife. Admire the breathtaking sight of the Nile River squeezing through a narrow gorge before plummeting into the Devil’s Cauldron, creating a spectacular waterfall.

Evening: Enjoy a delightful dinner at your lodge, accompanied by the sounds of the African bush. Swap stories of the day’s sightings around a crackling campfire before retiring to your comfortable accommodation.

Day 3: Encounter with the Big Five in Murchison Falls National Park

Morning: After a hearty breakfast, embark on another game drive through Murchison Falls National Park. With luck, you might encounter the elusive leopard stealthily prowling through the bush or a herd of majestic elephants crossing your path. Your experienced guide will share insights into the park’s ecosystem and wildlife behavior, enhancing your safari experience.
Afternoon: Return to your lodge for lunch and some relaxation time. You may choose to take a guided nature walk or visit a local community to learn about their traditional way of life and conservation efforts.
Evening: As the day comes to a close, enjoy a delicious dinner at your lodge while reflecting on the incredible wildlife encounters of the day. Perhaps take a nighttime stroll around the lodge grounds to listen to the symphony of nocturnal sounds emanating from the wilderness.

Day 4: Visit to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

Morning: Check out of your accommodation and embark on a scenic drive to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, located on the way to Kampala. This sanctuary plays a crucial role in Rhino conservation, offering a safe haven for the endangered species to roam freely.
Afternoon: Upon arrival, meet with knowledgeable guides who will accompany you on a guided walking safari to track rhinos in their natural habitat. Ziwa is home to both white and black rhinos, providing a unique opportunity to observe these magnificent creatures up close while learning about the conservation efforts aimed at protecting them from poaching and habitat loss.
Evening: After an enriching experience at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, conclude your safari with a leisurely drive back to Kampala or your onward destination, filled with unforgettable memories of your four-day adventure in the wild heart of Uganda.

GENERAL INFORMATION

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

All visitors to Uganda must have a valid passport with at least 4 consecutive blanks pages.  Any applicable visa and/or relevant documentation are the responsibility of the traveller.  For further information on Visa requirements visitors are advised to contact their nearest Uganda Embassy or Consulate.

220 Volts/AC50Hz. Sockets are UK style, 3 pin square plugs. Power is from the UMEME in the city/major towns and generator with inverter back up in the Safari Lodges and Camps.

CURRENCY:

Foreign currency must be changed at the Bank, Bureau de Change, and Hotel/Safari lodge/Camp/Resort.   Major Credit Cards, Master card, Visa, American Express, are usually accepted throughout the country.  Where credit cards are accepted, the payment will normally be recorded in US$ regardless of the card’s default currency.

CLOTHING:

Dress is mainly informal and should be comfortable as well as practical. Something warm should be brought along for early morning and evenings. Safari clothes are available from hotels/lodges/camps.

BAGGAGE:

Where possible, travel light. Baggage space on safari is limited to medium suitcase or soft bag per person plus reasonable amount of hand luggage. There is 15 Kilogram per person limit on all flights to the wildlife sanctuaries. Excess luggage must be stored in your arrival hotel.

WATER:

You will find many different of opinion of what is safe and what is not. We recommend for peace of mind, to drink local Bottled Mineral water. It is important to drink plenty of water especially during the hotter months. We would recommend that guests drink at least 2 to 3 liters of water per day to limit the effects of dehydration. 

HEALTH;

East Africa is a safe and secure destination; however, it is a good idea to take a few precautions.  Kindly consult your GP or local doctor at least 6 weeks before you travel, with regards:

Malaria prophylactics. East Africa is a known malaria area and preventive measures are essential. You are advised to take one of the recommended anti-malarial drugs.  Be sure to wear long sleeved shorts and trousers after sunset and spray the exposed parts of your body with a mosquito repellent spray

Remember to protect yourself from direct sun rays with sunscreen cream or safari hat.

For those guests with specific dietary requirement, please ensure we are notified prior to travel

As a guideline and dependent on how happy you are, we would suggest the following:

The General Hotel/Lodge/Camp Staff – Approximately U$ 10.00 per person per day

Driver Guides – Approximately US$ 15.00 to US$ 20.00 per person per day

PHOTOGRAPHY:

Please be careful when photographing public buildings, airports, bridges, the national flag and people in uniform.  Ensure that you have sought permission before photographing local people and their villages.  If in doubt, please check with your guide.
