17 Days Tanzania and Zanzibar Safari Itinerary
Day 1: ARRIVAL- ARUSHA
Upon arrival at the International Airport of Kilimanjaro, you will be met by your Driver/Guide and be transferred to your accommodation for dinner and overnight. You will be based at Mount Meru Game Lodge in Arusha.
Day 2: Arusha – Lake Manyara
This morning after breakfast, we depart to Lake Manyara. Nestling at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment, the park is recognized for its incredible beauty. You can see many game animals such as Buffalo, Elephant, Giraffe, Impala, hippo and others. Overnight at Serena Lodge at Lake Manyara Serena Lodge at Lake Manyara Tanzania’s towering Mto wa Mbu escarpment provides a remarkable backdrop for a one-of-a-kind visit. Lake Manyara Serena Safari Lodge welcomes you with a peaceful location amidst the rich wildlife and unsurpassed tranquility of Lake Manyara National Park.
The lake is home to over 300 migratory birds including flamingoes, long-crested eagles and grey-headed kingfisher; our lodge is designed to mimic this extraordinary birdlife, with an architectural motif featuring swooping avian curves and vibrantly coloured wall frescoes depicting the intricacy of bird migratory patterns.
Day 3: Lake Manyara -Olduvai Gorge-Serengeti
After breakfast you start on your way to Serengeti National Park with picnic lunches. On the way you will stop at the Olduvai Gorge where anthropologists Louis and Mary Leakey made many significant discoveries, contributing to the theory that human life originated in Africa. After stopping for your picnic lunch on a kopje (rock outcropping) in Serengeti you will continue further into the park and go on a game drive. Day 4: Serengeti National Park
Today, you will have a full day of wildlife experience on game drives around Serengeti. Depending on the time of year and the migration of the herds you can expect to see wildebeest, lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, monkeys, baboons, hippos, rhinos, antelopes and many birds and other species. Overnight at Sopa Lodge at Central Serengeti or Mapito Tented Camp at Ikoma, Northern Serengeti.
Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater
This morning after breakfast at the lodge, you will drive to Ngorongoro Crater for more wildlife experiences. After arrival in Ngorongoro you will descend into the crater for a wonderful game drive inside the Ngorongoro Crater. As very few animals migrate in and out of the crater with its 2000 ft. high walls, you can expect to see lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, hippos, flamingos, jackals, rhinos, antelopes, many birds and other species. Overnight at Sopa Lodge at Ngorongoro or one of the lodges in Karatu nearby (Farmhouse, Plantation Lodge, etc)
Day 6: Ngorongoro –Arusha
After breakfast you visit a Maasai Village or go on a Nature Walk at the Northern Crater Rim of Ngorongoro Crater inhabited by buffaloes, elephants, baboons, monkeys and different species of birds. Escorted by a ranger or Maasai Guide you follow animal paths through dense bush. Afterwards, you return to Arusha for some shopping/sightseeing in Arusha Town. Day 7: Arusha-Dar Es Salaam-Selous National Park
After breakfast, you will transfer to Arusha airport for your domestic flight to Selous Game Reserve via Dar Es Salaam. Upon arrival at the airport, you will be met by our guide or lodge representative and transfer to your lodge with an evening at leisure as you prepare for the next two days. Enjoy some time at the poolside or a great sundown from the lodge’s unique lounge area. Your lodge consists of stone cottages and luxury tented bandas situated over Beho Beho Hillside of Sable Mountain.
Overnight at Sable Mountain Lodge This was the second camp to be opened by A Tent with a View. Known for its warm & homely ambience, this lovely lodge was one of just six safari camps in Selous Game Reserve when it opened its doors in 1999 for the new Millennium. Sable was also the very first totally solar-powered safari lodge in Selous.
Day 8-9: Selous Game Reserve
You will have great wildlife experience for the next 2 days on game drives at Selous Game Reserve. Named after the explorer Frederick Selous, the Game Reserve is the largest protected wildlife reserve, a UN World Heritage site and a pristine uninhabited area larger than Switzerland.
The topography of the park varies from rolling savannah woodland, grassland plain and rocky outcrops cut by the Rufiji River and its tributaries. Activities are game drives, a walking safari and a boat trip at Lake Tagalala where crocodiles, hippos and grazing game can be seen. Overnight at Sable Mountain Lodge or you can have fly camping that can be arranged with us.
Day 10: Selous Game Reserve -Zanzibar
This morning after breakfast at the lodge, you will transfer to Selous Airstrip for your connecting flight to Zanzibar. You will then be transferred to your hotel at Nungwi Beach.
Day 11 -15: Zanzibar Beach Extension
For the next for days, you will have time to relax and enjoy the beaches of Zanzibar along the Indian Ocean or choose to relax at the comfort of your hotel as you enjoy on the poolside and sunsets over the horizons. Alternatively, you can choose to make this time active by engaging in different water activities like snorkeling, diving among others.
Day 16: Spice Tour & Stonetown
After breakfast, transfer to Stonetown. On the way we will do the famous Spice Tour. We have developed a special Spice Tour with in depth information not only about spices, but also organically grown herbs and a detailed description about their traditional uses in medicine cosmetics and cooking. After the tour we invite for an opulent lunch at our guides’ home, where you can taste the spices and fruits. In the afternoon we show you Stone Town on our Historical Stone Town Tour.
This 17 Days Tanzania and Zanzibar Safari takes you through fabled Stone Town, where history appears to stand still. With visits to the House of Wonders, the Palace Museum (People’s Palace) and the Arab Fort amongst others, it is a fascinating look at the essence of Zanzibar. You will see Zanzibar’s bustling market, winding alleyways, ornately carved and studded doors, two cathedrals and countless mosques! Overnight at Zanzibar Coffeehouse or Dhow Palace or Tembo Hotel. Day 17: Zanzibar – Departure
This morning after breakfast, you will be transferred to Zanzibar Airport for international flight back home.

GENERAL INFORMATION
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: All visitors to East Africa must have a valid passport with at least 4 consecutive blanks pages. Any applicable visa and/or relevant documentation are the responsibility of the traveller (East African Visa). For further information on Visa requirements visitors are advised to contact their nearest Embassy or Consulate.

TIME: GMT +3
VOLTAGE: 220 Volts/AC50Hz. Sockets are UK style, 3 pin square plugs. Power is from the government in the city/major towns and generator with inverter back up in the Safari Lodges and Camps.
CURRENCY: Foreign currency must be changed at the Bank, Bureau de Change, and Hotel/Safari lodge/Camp/Resort.  Major Credit Cards, Master card, Visa, American Express, are usually accepted throughout the country. Where credit cards are accepted, the payment will normally be recorded in US$ regardless of the card’s default currency.
CLOTHING: Dress is mainly informal and should be comfortable as well as practical. Something warm should be brought along for early morning and evenings. Safari clothes are available from hotels/lodges/camps.
BAGGAGE: Where possible, travel light. Baggage space on safari is limited to medium suitcase or soft bag per person plus reasonable amount of hand luggage. There is 15 Kilogram per person limit on all flights to the wildlife sanctuaries. Excess luggage must be stored in your arrival hotel.
WATER: You will find many different of opinion of what is safe and what is not. We recommend for peace of mind, to drink local Bottled Mineral water. It is important to drink plenty of water especially during the hotter months. We would recommend that guests drink at least 2 to 3 litres of water per day to limit the effects of dehydration.
HEALTH; East Africa is a safe and secure destination; however, it is a good idea to take a few precautions. Kindly consult your GP or local doctor at least 6 weeks before you travel, with regards: Malaria prophylactics. East Africa is a known malaria area and preventive measures are essential. You are advised to take one of the recommended anti-malarial drugs. Be sure to wear long sleeved shorts and trousers after sunset and spray the exposed parts of your body with a mosquito repellent spray Remember to protect yourself from direct sun rays with sunscreen cream or safari hat.
DIETARY REQUIREMENTS: For those guests with specific dietary requirement, please ensure we are notified prior to travel
GRATUITIES: As a guideline and dependent on how happy you are, we would suggest the following: The General Hotel/Lodge/Camp Staff – Approximately U$ 10.00 per person per day Driver Guides – Approximately US$ 15.00 to US$ 20.00 per person per day
PHOTOGRAPHY: Please be careful when photographing public buildings, airports, bridges, the national flag and people in uniform. Ensure that you have sought permission before photographing local people and their villages. If in doubt, please check with your guide.
